Radiology

What is Radiology?

Radiology is a branch of medicine that uses imaging technology to diagnose and treat disease. Radiologists use many imaging techniques, including X-ray, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and nuclear medicine. The radiologist also interprets the images, which physicians use to make treatment decisions. Radiology is one of the oldest branches of medicine.

Radiology

Radiologists were the first medical professionals to study X-rays. They discovered the first bones in the human body using this imaging technology. In the late 1800s, radiologists also developed the first x-ray machines that allowed doctors to view internal organs. The most common types of diagnostics radiology exams include:

✅  Computed tomography (CT), also known as a computerized axial tomography (CAT) scan, including CT angiography

✅  Fluoroscopy, including upper GI and barium enema

✅  Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA)

✅  Mammography

✅  Nuclear medicine includes such tests as a bone scan, thyroid scan, and thallium cardiac stress test

✅  Plain x-rays, which include chest x-ray

✅  Positron emission tomography, also called PET imaging, PET scan, or PET-CT, when it is combined with CT

✅  Ultrasound

MRI

A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan is an imaging test that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create pictures of the body. It does not use ionizing radiation (x-rays).An MRI scan is often used to look for problems such as injury, cancer, or other diseases. An MRI scan is usually done in a hospital or doctor’s office.

CT - Scan

A Computed Tomography (CT) scan is an imaging method that uses x-rays to create pictures of cross-sections of the body. CT Scans are one of the most important tools in diagnosing and treating medical conditions. They provide detailed images of the inside of the body, and can help doctors to identify problems and plan treatment.
X - ray

X-ray

X-rays are a type of electromagnetic radiation, just like visible light. An x-ray is a type of electromagnetic radiation. It is used to create images of the inside of objects, such as the human body. X-rays are produced by machines called x-ray generators. They are used in medicine, dentistry, and industry. X-rays can be harmful to human health, so they must be used carefully.

Dexa

A DEXA scans are used to measure bone density, which can help doctors diagnose osteoporosis. DEXA scans can tell your doctor whether you’re at risk for bone loss, fractures, or other problems, and they can also help your doctor guide your treatment decisions.

Ultrasound

Whether it’s your first child or your fourth, there can be many anxious moments of pregnancy, especially during the first few weeks of fetal development. This is precisely why ultrasound technology is vital to doctors and parents alike. Regularly monitoring the fetus in real time can reveal abnormalities or alleviate concerns.

Colour Doppler

A Doppler ultrasound is an imaging test that uses sound waves to show blood moving through blood vessels. A regular ultrasound also uses sound waves to create images of structures inside the body, but it can’t show blood flow.
